Alex,
Its John Gasker again for jtweather.t35.com and jgstudent.t35.com. I do want make a big recommendation to everybody who was affected by the hardware failure, considering that my site experienced a failure before. As I said in my last post, I have most of files from my website scattered on my computer. I may have to even recreate some of my files from the site if I find that I no longer have them. I will admit that I should not have my backup files scattered about my PC.
I am going to assume that there may be members that do not have a good backup of his/her site, missing files from the site, or even maybe no backup at all. I do feel bad for those members having to recreate lost files. I know it is a difficult task - I had to do that the last time that I lost my entire site. (Good luck recreating those files)
It seems to me that there are widespread effects (major losses) for a lot of users of t35.com. The recommendation that I wanted to make to everybody, especially to those users that need to recreate files, is this: Once you have your entire site restored, make your way out to the store and if you have a CD burner, buy a pack of CD-RWs (not CD-Rs, because you can't add files to a CD-R after its burnt) and by all means back up your site on the CD-RW. Better yet, if you have a DVD burner, get a pack of DVD-RWs and back up your site. You can also use a flash drive if you have one.
Bottom line is if you don't already have a backup, by all means do so. It'll save you a lot of work later. Believe me...I fell into the trap of not having a backup last time I lost the files on my site.
Just as a suggestion on going about making the backup, wait to do any kind of backup until you have enough files re-uploaded to your site so that your site at least is somehow functional. Once you have the site somehow functional, then make the backups on the CD-RWs, DVD-RWs, a flash drive, or some other means (don't spend all kinds of money on backing up your site). And finally, as you upload or create files add those files to your backup asap.
I do also have some thoughts on backing up your site to a flash drive. I actually think that backing up to a flash drive is the best way to back up your site. Flash drives are generally inexpensive. As a matter of fact, I just checked WalMart's web site, and you can actually either online or in the store, get a 4GB flash drive for under 15 bucks. I think a 4GB flash drive for that price would do perfect for a media to store your backup of your site.
Ok...that's all I have say for now. Good luck everyone on getting your sites back in order and please by all means back up your site.
Thanks Alex
