Since it's the holiday season, I thought I would open up the floor for requests on new features you want us to provide on either free or paid hosting. Once we receive all the suggestions we will be doing feasibility studies and will try to implement as many of the suggestions as we can. Just so you know we aren't kidding around, check out some of the suggestions from the last time we did one of these in early June 2007:

Free Web Hosting:
- Domain name hosting: Completed July 2007
- PHP time out limit increased: Completed Sept 2007
- footer image replaced with text: Completed Oct 2007

Paid Hosting:
- More php modules: Completed Sept 2007
- PHP upgrade to 5.x: To be completed Dec 2007

I figured as much lol.. We might start doing test of that on a per-account basis. Like hand out a dozen or so DB's and see what happens. More importantly, we need to come up with a more automated system for this kind of stuff (including domain name linking - which is still a very manual process).

If going to offer a per-account mysql db basis, I suggest making it so the DB can't be hotlinked off the account.

Because we both know if we offer a free mysql db, people are just going to make the account for the mysql and then offlink it to a different website.

I agree Daniel.. that's going to be one of the challenges, to make sure it can only be used from our own servers.

A few other requests I received by email included increasing the file size limit and switching to banners instead of pop-ups. I don't know if either of those is really necessary or a good idea, so I'd love some feedback from you guys...

Besides the challenge of fighting hot linking, another challenge is going to be allowing an appropriate amount of MySQL queries per hour on the accounts.

If the queries per hour is too low, people will complain. If it's too high, it could mean alot of abuse.

As for the banners vs popups, I am still uncertain on that. I have not seen a single popup from any *.t35.com site as my AdBlock Plus extension in Firefox blocks both banners and popups.

However, as far as the banner vs popups situation goes, it should be best presented to what makes the most revenue. Banner ads do not give you money unless they are clicked, as per popups which pay for each impression.

You're right, pop-ups do pay per CPM, but banners are starting to make a pretty good comeback. Target banners pay such a good CPC that it sometimes comes out to be a better CPM. I saw a few free hosts switching from pop-ups to banners, so it might be worth looking into. From what I can tell, pop-ups still make more.

I was wondering if you support DreamWeaver? Flash? (Or will in the future).
Eventually, I want to learn how to program games and have them up on my site. I was told that Dreamweaver does everything Flash does and more. So, I'm leaning towards Dreamweaver.
Thanks!  grin

ps. I won't be needing such support until 2009 at the earliest.  grin
