Is it possible to BYOD to AOL's email or Office Live (beta)?
« on: February 20, 2008, 12:28:57 PM »
I am the webmaster for womenplayfootball.com and would like email for womenplayfootball.com.  I have found a couple of services that provide free email for your domain, so I assume AOL or Office Live (Beta) hosts the email for your domain.

I have sent an email t35's webmaster for the MX record to  be changed as instructed by AOL's BYOD instructions.  Actually, AOL instructed me to contact the registrar for the domain, which is register.com.  I contacted register.com and they said that they are not hosting the domain, and to contact the host, which is t35.com.

Please let me know if my request for the MX record to be changed will be able to be processed.  And if it is, I am providing the link for AOL so that others who have their own domains hosted by t35 can also get email for their domain.  Also, please let me know how long it will take to process this request.

I found out about AOL's BYOD here: https://domains.aol.com/personaldomain/app/domainMainSearch

Hopefully I this will work.  I will be really grateful if it does.  Please let me know if I did not forward the email to the appropriate person for my request to be processed.

Unfortunately we don’t provide the ability to modify those kind of DNS settings on free web hosting. You might want to try doing it through your domain name registrar.

As I stated before, the registrar (register.com) referred me to the host for the domain...

You would need to upgrade to a paid hosting plan if you want to have modifiable DNS settings and don't want to do it via your registrar.

Ahhh... I had to change my DNS settings back to default, then change my MX settings, then change my DNS settings back to t35's settings.  The email is now set up, but now working.  Will update you tomorrow about whether or not the email will work.  AOL says that it may take 12 to 24 hours to receive email when you BYOD.

Thanks
