another new guy question
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:44:00 PM »
Alright, I got my demo up and working.  From what I've seen in the short time I've had this account, I'd say I've found my paid hosting.  Cross your fingers, if I get this contract part of the money will likely go to me getting a paid hosting account here.

Now, I have questions though.

One of the requirements of my demo is for a captcha system which I've installed, but doesn't seem to work on the free site.  I read somewhere that the GD(?) is implemented for PHP so I'm not sure exactly why this is.  I've looked over the code(I used a free script) and don't see anything that might conflict with the free account, but if anyone has any hints about this I'd love any suggestions you may have.

Next. . .  So if I get paid hosting, all of the limitations go away?  Things like not being able to use text files, not being able to hot-link, secure mail, etc.?

I really like the easy to use interface, but when saving an edited PHP script the server takes forever to save it and return control to me.  Is this normal?  Or is it just me?

Okay, and one comment.  I've been doing reviews of various web hosting sites, both for me and my Mom because her's is due to renew at the end of the year and we're both unhappy with webs.com.  You guys seem to have about the best user reviews I've seen.

PHP is in safe-mode on free hosting - so that might prevent your captcha from working. Paid hosting has no restrictions. Also, paid hosting uses cpanel versus our simple file manager on free hosting. Here are some demo's on cpanel:

Like our simple file manager on free hosting, paid hosting also uses the cpanel. One can try to search for its demo in the internet.

In addition, paid hosting utilizes cpanel versus our mere file manager on a free hosting service. Here are a number of demos available on cpanel.

We use simple file manager for free hosting, paid hosting and we also use the cpanel. On the internet, we can also search for the demo.
