I would like to promote an affiliate link. I am not selling a product but access to a new free review site. Can anyone tell me the correct and best way to do this? Any advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Are you planning to promote this affiliate link on a website? If so, I suggest putting the link above the flap and in a visible location for users to see it.
Also, don't just use a plain old name for the link [meaning blahblah or blahblah.com], but rather make the link name something that would catch a users eye.

What you should do is visit sites that you are interested in having or promoting this affiliate program with. Try approaching blogs that are closely related to your topic, there is more of a chance they will participate in your affiliate program. Try creating affiliates with forums and go beyond just affiliates and participate in boards. Listing your site in your signature will drive traffic to your site.

I would suggest Using PHPadsnew to make an ad system, and then just plug in your affiliate Link/ID and your image there. if there are more than one banner, that way you can show more than one.

This is a free account you can get with google that enrolls you in their web crawler program plus offers other great web master tools. It might be helpful to you. If you haven't made a site map first, you will need to go to
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
and do that first before signing up on the google thing.

I have promoted affiliate links in my blog, that brought decent results. I have also used free classifieds, that's a waste of time... Forums are not a good option either, because posting affiliate links may affect your credibility ("Oh, you're here to sell stuff!") and besides some forums prohibit that.
