When I download a gif from my website script, it appears like a thin line.
I expected to see the 1" by 1" graphic solid color image that appeared on the site. Is it just a thin line that expands once the web page size is set? How does this work?

I`m not sure exactly what you mean.  Gif format seems to have some problems on web - try to use for example (if you want transparency) .png format. If it`s the same problem post here (also the link from your site).

Ok, when you right click the image before saving it, what does the size for the dimensions state?  Yes .gif can have issues but so can any other format. It normally goes by the individual file itself as uploaded or if there is something interfering with a proper transfer a la a glitch. If there are errors in the code you can have download issues period so isolate the issue.

I think the quality of image matters here which is not supported by browser.
Try in another browser, also you may replace the image with alternative image format.
