I know that a lot of people are in love with their web site graphics, but when is it just too much? Every one gets excited when they plaster the web with smilies or dancing fairies, but to view some of these pages can be a real pain. Where do you draw the line? Do you prefer a page with a few simple graphics and the majority informational text, or are you a graphics hound, who likes web pages that look like the newest video game?

I like websites that are very well laid out.  For example my 9 year old son is working on developing his first website.  It is based on Star Wars and he has pics and captions around the pics.  It is kind of a busy site.  I myself find those animated graphics annoying.  There have only been a few that I liked.

I prefer websites with very little graphics due to the fact my internet connection is a bit slow, Now if i had a fast computer i wouldn't mind at all.

I think a few graphics are necessary so a page doesn't look plain and dull, but more than a "few" is far too many. No one wants a page to take forever to load nor do they care to just look at graphics usually unless it's a site specifically for images.

A website for me or a message form has to be well ordered or categorized. If it is kept up to date it is easier to follow along and less confusion happens. A few graphics and the rest is text that is perfect and a good form instead of plastering it with to many pictures, that could make it look overly cluttered.

What? **** like that doesn't exist any more. It's not 1995.

We have very strict (X)HTML standards these days.

I usually prefer to see little more than a banner/background/a couple of pictures on a website that are relevant and support the content. For personal sites I'm normally not too concerned, however I do agree that animated images distract the viewer's attention too much.

I think graphics are best used when they are used for a very specific purpose like replacing text.  If a graphic is used solely for the purpose of being "cute" or "cool" then more than likely it is not needed.

Use clean, well polished graphics to communicate, not to impress.

Graphics should be there to compliment or enhance the site, if it doesn't serve any purpose for the site visitor it shouldn't be there, because it just slows their browsing experience. As they say, sometimes less is more.
