In internet business your going to come across acronyms, also known as short form words for certain terms.. Here is list of terms you should know.


ROI  = Return on investment
WTB = Wanted to buy
WTS = Wanted to Sell
Example: WTB: Proxy network. Means there looking to buy proxies
CPC = Cost per click
CPM = Cost per thousand impressions
CPA = Cost per action
eCPM = Estimated Cost per thousand impressions. (Estimated amount it will cost for 1000 impressions)
BIN = Buy it now (related to auctions)
BL = Backlink
CSE = Comparison Shopping Engine or Custom Search Engine (Google)
CSS = Cascading Style Sheet
DC = Data Center
DMOZ = Directory - Mozilla
HTML = HyperText Markup Language
IBL = Inbound Link
IPB9 = Internet Business Promoter
IR = Indexing and Retrieval
LSA = Latent semantic analysis
LSI = Latent Semantic Indexing
OBL = Outbound Link
ODP = Open Direcrory Project, See DMOZ
OWBL = One way back link
PaIR = Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval
PR = Google's PageRank
RI = Regular index
RSS = RDF Site Summary, Rich Site Summary, Really Simple Syndication
SE = Search Engine
SEM = Search Engine Marketing
SEO = Search Engine Optimization (Optimisation)
SERP = Search Engine Results Page
SI = Supplemental Index
SSE = Yahoo! Search Submit Express
SSP = Yahoo! Search Submit Pro
SWL = SiteWide Link
TBPR = Toolbar PageRank
TR = Trust Rank
VIPS = Visual-block Page Segmentation
WP/WP4 = Web Position/Web Position 4
XML = Extensible Markup Language
YPN - Yahoo Publisher Network
CMS - Content Management System
MFA - Made for adsense also; made for Ads.
FTP - File Transfer Protocol
HTTP - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
Bot - for Robot a.k.a Spider
CTA - Content Targeted Advertising
CTR - Click Through Rate
PFI - Pay For Inclusion
FFA- Free For All

I am sure I can add on to that list, but let me think...

MAW - Most Wanted Action
KWFP - Keyword Focused Page
CTPM - Content Traffic Presell Monetize

I can't remember more for now, but I now some gazillions more, they just don't get to the surface of my mind!

Hi y'all

Thanks for the info, Dollar (what a name  smiley) - there were quite a few of the acronyms I either didn't know about or didn't know the meaning of, so thanks. I've learnt something new I didn't know yesterday, or 5 minutes ago for that matter ;-)

I definitely didn't know quite a few of these myself.  A lot of webpreneurs make the mistake of using these acronyms in their marketing without remembering that many people have no idea what most of these technical terms stand for...especially if they're new to Internet marketing.  It's great that you've defined them here.  Thanks for this reference list! smiley
