Why is it that ALL images on tpgames.net say forbidden to access when the permissions are 644 (the same permission I gave on my other site that does not have this issue?)

half-solved: HOTLINKING protection is NOT working how ever I did it. It was banning all access to all images not put in a html page first. Disabled hotlinking, problem solved.  rolleyes
I'm assuming I did something wrong with my hotlinking? Any clue as to what?

With hotlinking enabled, it does this:
IF I put the images up on a html page first, then view the page in the browser, then go within cPanel to view the image, then I can access it without the error page.
However, if I view the image withOUT putting it up on a html page first with the src stuff, then I get the 403 error message.

Urls to access:

http://tpgames.net
http://www.tpgames.net

Extensions to allow (seperate by commas): png,mp3

I am going to try and find the other post that deals with hotlinking as I know I've covered this before. Other post tells me nothing. And, my other site and what I did there doesn't help either as I disabled hotlinking protection.

Thanks!  grin

Did you check inside the htaccess file in your dir? hotlinking settings would be there. You can also try looking at this video that explains how to use cpanel hotlinking:

That video has always gave me this error:
Quote
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /1/tutorials/cpanel_xv2_hotlink.htm on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I got this error on the other post too! I don't know why they don't allow us to watch the video.

My .htaccess file is as clear as mud to me. However, I went back to the hotlinking panel. I missed this little neat feature:
Quote
Allow direct requests (ie. entering the url to an image in your browser)

I had forgotten to check its box!

 huh
However, within cPanel, if I click on the link, it STILL says forbidden access! I have to copy and paste the URL into my browser window. Or, bring up the forbidden error page, click in the url box, and then enter. It appears to be a programming 'error' within cPanel, in that they didn't think to program it so within cPanel offers access. Or, maybe this is a security feature so that you can check that the hotlinking is working?  huh
Thanks!

It might be browser cache.. once you check the box in cpanel, try from a different computer maybe?

Its not browser cache. I tried it with a newly uploaded image and in a different browser. Opera instead of Firefox. And I did double check to make sure the box was checked first.

I think the problem is how the browser views links from within cPanel. The communication seems to say that cPanel is hotlinking to the image.

http://www.tpgames.net/images/2.png

However, you will only get the error if you click on the link from within cPanel.
If you click behind the link in the URL of your browser, the page refreshes to show you the image. Then, when you click on link in cPanel, you do not get the error.

If I copy and paste the link into a browser URL, using a different browser (Opera), the image shows up.

If I rename the file, I get a forbidden error when I click on link using cPanel.
If I copy that link from within cPanel, and paste it into Opera (instead of Firefox where I have cPanel open in), I do not get the error.

What would be nice, is if I could view the image from within cPanel without getting the forbidden message, but if anyone else tries hotlinking to the image, they would get the forbidden message. If this is not possible, no problem.
