I have SMF on my forum and I got an error about the database. The help desk at SMF suggested that I ask if we can have our SQL upgraded. Would that be possible?

We are currently running the latest mysql version on the server. What is the error you got? We have a bunch of members running SMF without any errors.

SMF Help Desk said they got this error:

Quote
: Can't find file: './crystall_witsforum/witsforumsessions.frm' (errno: 13)
/home2/crystall/public_html/wits/forum/Sources/Load.php

One recommended to check that the owner of the files on the hard drive for my database have not been changed from "mysql" to "root". Would someone be able to do that please?

All ownership is correct. The error you pasted above is a simple not found error.. the file just isn't there ... I don't even see the 'crystall_witsforum' folder. Are you sure you setup all the options correctly in your forum?

That's the name of the database for the forum, though. It's the only mySQL table that I have. Is there something I may need to change?

My advice would be to install the forum via fantastico (it's in your cpanel). It allows you to install it in a simple 1 click procedure and I just tested it out and it worked flawlessly.

Can I install it even with data in the tables? I'm afraid to.

I think it creates it's own tables. Make sure to back everything up before attempting to do anything...
