PHP extensions for Moodle install
« on: November 10, 2010, 05:26:08 PM »
Aloha,

I will be setting up a new (second) paid account soon to run a Moodle installation. I've been testing on my current paid account and get the following warnings within Moodle (whether I use fantastico or install manually):

"The Zip PHP extension is now required by Moodle, info-ZIP binaries or PclZip library are not used anymore."

"Installing the optional OpenSSL library is highly recommended -- it enables Moodle Networking functionality."

"The xmlrpc extension is needed for hub communication, and useful for web services and Moodle networking"

The documentation from Moodle is here, here,  and here. It mentions opening the php.ini and uncommenting certain lines in order to enable these php extensions. I've been all over my moodle install and root directory when it dawned on me that the reason I can't find it is because it is a server side file only editable by the server admin.

If I set up the new account to host this project, would it be possible for you make these changes so my Moodle install works optimally?

I would love to use T35 for this, but if it's not possible, I'd have to find another place to host that will add them. Personally, that idea makes me cringe - you guys really are the best and I've been hard pressed to find any other hosts that come even close to what you offer in service, price and flexibility.

Thanks for your assistance!
Monica

OpenSSL and Zip PHP are already installed/enabled. Php.ini is set server wide and can only be modified if you have a dedicated server.
