"Could not change perms on smf_mysql_5_0_12.tar.gz: Bad file descriptor"
is the error I get.  I did try getting help at SMF, but was wondering if SAFE mode was why I can not  write to my forums smiley file to add more smileys? Is there a work around? The problem is that the program does need to know what key code to use, so simly adding images to the folder like I do my other folders I do not think will work.
Thanks in advance!

http://www.tpgames.com/tpforums/index.php

I now get this error as well:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /tpforums/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This was after using Smartftp to change permissions.  I tried to change permissions to read, write and execute for User, Group and Other. It will not let me do this. It defaults back to user has read, write and execute, but group and others do not have write. Regardless, the forum site says that write permissions were not granted. It changed the permissions number back to 755 instead of 777 that is needed to change permissions.

I also need the general public to be able to see and use the site! Thanks!

To save time, I DID make sure that  on the cPanel, permissions to read, write and execute was everyone including WORLD. I did this for tpforums and smileys. Tpforums STILL does NOT come up because of forbidden error.  moving all files to new folder and changing name to public_folder_1 did not work. I get a file not found error. This error is something really stupid I AM doing. I copied the URL address that program said it was, and still file not found.

UPDATE: ENTIRE site is 403 error Forbidden. And when I go to cPanel to SERVER and press PASSWORD Protect Directories, I find no way to undo a Password Protect Directories. However, I can change anything I want IN cPanel, except that. I just went here to try and find something that might work. Changing name of public html did not work either. I even changed the permissions on the "chmage fle permissions page" 1 permission at a time and that did not change anything.

Thanks!

You renamed/changed your public_html folder.. which is causing all of these problems.

Logs show that you changed it from public_html to 1public_html dec 6th.

Change it back to fix the errors.

angry
QUOTE OF MY LAST PARAGRAPH IN POST ABOVE TO PROVE YOU DID NOT READ THE ENTIRE THING:

To save time, I DID make sure that  on the cPanel, permissions to read, write and execute was everyone including WORLD. I did this for tpforums and smileys. Tpforums STILL does NOT come up because of forbidden error.  moving all files to new folder

-->and changing name to public_folder_1 did not work. I get a file not found error. <--
This error is something really stupid I AM doing. I copied the URL address that program said it was, and still file not found.

You obvoiusly did NOT read that line!!!!!!!!!! If you would have read that you would not have gave me such stupid advice! Sorry, but just a little wee bit frustrated to put it milldly.

I did try changing the public_folder to lots of different names and copying data over to try and get around the problem.
I changed it to 1public_html trying to fix the problem! Why would I change the name of the folder if everything was working? Huh I'd have no reason! The problem is somewhere along the line it thinks that folder named public_html is NOT pulic and not one including the owner can see it! EVEN WHEN  I AM LOGGED IN TO CPANEL! When I had it public_html I still could NOT access my site. IN short the whole problem started when I tried to make smileys folder writeable! I had 403 errors ever since!
I forgot to change the name to public_html when it did not solve the problem. I still get 403 errors. I would not have pmed you if the title was the only problem and I would have solved that myself! When I tried to change it so I could write to Smileys folder, is when I started getting 403 errors. I need my custom smileys to upload to my forums site. I need my entire site to stop giving everybody 403 errors. I need to have ME NOT change permissions! If I would have said forget the smileys I would not be IN this mess!

Please go back to my PM to you, go into my account and fix the problem. When I do it, It says that all of it is with permissions! I can not find the error! THANK YOU! I still appreciate you guys very much!  grin

I don't know what you did first to cause this.. but the public_html folder permissions also seem incorrect.. as well as some other things in your account. I'll have someone take a look at it later tonight.

Thanks! The one thing I did was try to do anything in the first place. I shall leave all permissions work from here on out to anyone who is not me and we all know has the ability to do it with out messing up. And with out having to get your team involved like this again!

The permissions on public_html were correct, but the rest of your files were incorrect. In addition, you had installed (or was installed by your script) a htaccess file which was preventing access. I believe everything is working now.

I only find the direct link to the plain tpforums  working. None of the above and the other links I did not post, are working! Sorry!

Basically, the only page that works currently is this one: http://www.tpgames.com/tpforums/index.php

Thats the only link you provided initially.. so that was the one i fixed.

I thought you could fix the other ones (all you need to do is chmod the folders back to 0755 since the htaccess file is now deleted).

I have now done that for you.

If any other files don't work, just chmod them back to 755.

Thanks! I was just afraid to do anything with permissions because it was me dealing with permissions that messed up all in the first place! I can do this tomorrow. My friend has a techy friend who can make sure I do it correctly. (He is not working for once.)

UPDATE: YES I am finally doing it correctly!!! All is well. [subdomain I will deal with later.]
