how to move to t35?
« on: June 24, 2006, 06:42:37 PM »
hi
i design/program/maintain a cycling clubs website (www.sfacc.co.uk), which is hosted on freenetname.co.uk. After many problems and restrictions with freenetname, i have finally convinced the club to move to T35 hosting (personal package). I can deal with the site once its hosted here, but can someone give me some sort of walkthrough (or direct me to one if i've missed it) as to how i can move the domain registration "thing", so when users enter www.sfacc.co.uk, they will arrive at the site hosted on T35 and not on freenetname.

The site has not yet purchased the hosting, but i've got a 99% yes. Basically, how do i transfer www.sfacc.co.uk (the name, not the files) to T35?

all help will be greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance,
Russell Hunt

You will need to log into the domain register and (where you got your domain from) change the name servers from:
Quote
map1.global.net.uk
map2.global.net.uk
map3.global.net.uk
map4.global.net.uk

TO: (This will allow your domain to point to our servers)
Quote
NS1.T35.NET
NS2.T35.NET

thankyou...
the new site is now in a ready state to go online, and the proposal has to go through a committee first. I have been asked for the cost (one-off and yearly) of running the new website, but i am unsure of these.

If anyone can guide me as to where all of the costs are located (and to whom the money goes), please advise me

So far, i think these are the approximate costs:
£30 (one-off) - get Nominet to change domain
£80 (annual) - keep domain name (nominet)
£26 (annual) - t35 for hosting ($49.99)

I am assuming that it is nominet whom i'll have to pay, but i am unsure of this. A walkthrough would be very useful if someone has done this before and is willing to give their time to help me

thanks in advance,
russell

information:
site: www.sfacc.co.uk
currently hosted with: freenetname.co.uk
want to move to t35, but keep domain name
also note: somehow, there are no annual costs whatsoever for the current domain name and/or hosting at freenetname... - no one seems to know why

Most of your assumptions are right on the ball. You would need to have your domain name registrar change the name servers to ns1.t35.net and ns2.t35.net. I haven't heard of any that charge for this, but I am not that familiar with UK domanis. For US based domains, you can expect to pay $8-10/years (try godaddy.com) and you can change the name servers at any time for free.

Hi again,
we have now purchased the hosting plan and are ready to change the settings.
When logged into freenetname.co.uk, and have selected domain transfer, it is asking for a 'TAG':

Destination tag
Please select your new provider's tag:

I have tried the obvious and looked for T35, but it's not there.

If anyone knows T35's tag or any more information about this, please enlighten me

thanks in advance,
russell hunt

ps. mods etc, if you need username/password to get into the settings page yourself, just ask:
msn/email (preferred): bamber123@gmail.com
aim (non-preferred): bamber62222

You will need to log into the domain register and (where you got your domain from) change the name servers from:
Quote
map1.global.net.uk
map2.global.net.uk
map3.global.net.uk
map4.global.net.uk

TO: (This will allow your domain to point to our servers)
Quote
NS1.T35.NET
NS2.T35.NET

I have never heard of a domain name registrar asking for a "tag". You would have to call them and try to figure out what that is.
