Ive got a beta version on another PC i have and to be honnest I wasnt all that impressed with the supposed changes. The biggest improvement is the memory footprint as i used to often get 200mb tied up with a load of tabs but now normally not more than 60mb.

Id echo Mission really. gwebtalk is a very attractive tamplate. Im a fan of the forums being a bit wider than that but other than that its great!

Proxy is just another proxy. looks fine. adds look fairly well placed. just promote it!!!

A winner ive seen elsewhere is a 'lottery' style competition. Each post gets one ticket and every month you draw a winner. Maybe offer a month free hosting or 6 months to really make it worth it.

For your personal statistics id recomend google analytics. Very comprehensive!
For a hit counter on on the site like numbers increasing id say avoid it. they look naff and are pointless! cool

Free software it has to be SMF. Its fast, secure and user friendly. Mods can be a pain for non standard themes but other than that its great.

Paid software it has to be vB. Love the 'hooks' with that software...
9  Web Design & Developement / Web Design / HTML / Re: how u make public forum? on: January 07, 2008, 03:47:00 PM
thats a realy good question for that i have no idee :/
i also have a "new" forum www.developer-network.org
i'm trying to "post" it everywhere, but 1 month later=> no people Sad

i don't know what to do
Id say this is worth a new thread (maybe a mod could split it?)

But to start a forum you need activity. Be that from you creating multiple accounts, getting a load of friends to post or paying for posting. Once there is a bit of life get it advertised in sig links etc. and the keep at it!

how do you make a forum with no user login crap?
You want everyone to be able to post without registering?
It can be done in most software by simply enableing guest posting but its really not a good idea.
You will end up with a huge amount of spam. Registering is standard really and wont put people off where as a site full of spam and rubish will!
