Yeah to create websites i highly recommend using FTP to upload files to your server to download an FTP client use google and search for SmartFTP, thats a brilliant client for uploading things.

As for making a website, if your a beginner or even if your not i recommend buying a copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver. this is simple but complex and can make powerful pages for you with little or know programming knowledge at all.

I also find using a Shoutbox is also a good way to get people active on your site, as mentioned above googling free guest books is a good option but visiters will be more inclined to sign your guestbook if you use a unique or custom made guestbook like the simple one posted by trecoo.

You can easily customize your guestbook if you learn a little bit about programming.
3  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Pop-unders and Layer Ads on: December 24, 2007, 07:19:42 PM
I also find that pop-unders are the best pop-up type ads available, they are indeed the most annoying but will constantly get your impressions without disturbing the users browsing.

But if your site uses these pop-ups i highly doubt it would attract visiters, as people just hate ads on websites.
4  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Making Money with Text Links on: December 24, 2007, 07:16:28 PM
Yeah thats one of the problems with TLA, google seems to dislike people using them as they can be fraudulent if you use them alongside adsense and the sort.

I suppose if your not too bothered about googles page rank then i would recomend using them, again, as someone mentioned above you really do need ranks for it to actually generate good income.

Yeah i implemented Adsense on my forums, although i don't really make much from it, its still a small income earner which helps pay for things. i prefer to use Adsense on my forums as i can then make money from not using it by allowing members to purchase Ad-free browsing. so either way i benefit from using it.
6  General / Web Hosting Forum / Re: LayeredTech Hacked on: December 24, 2007, 07:08:17 PM
All in all the threat of hacking will always be with us, that battle against the hackers will always continue, the more software developes, the more do hackers attempts to destroy them.

its a shame that hackers from outside countries cannot be prosecuted for hacking attempts, i for one have almost been hacked a few times, after checking the IP's i found that the most common place of hackers from my attacks was in turkey...which is rather worrying.

8  General / Web Hosting Blog / Re: Do site titles matter in Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? on: December 24, 2007, 06:41:20 PM
Yes that is true, i also found that padding out your titles is a good way to improve searches, like someone mentioned above, using common words in your title or brand is often the best way to go about making a site that will be noticed, everyday things that people associate with and common things work really well.

I also heard that people also use Address masks to also increase your page rank, for example

Yoursite.com could be masked with "Free-Online-games" and you'd get the keywords in for both yoursite.com as well as "Free-Online-Games".

I wonder if using a marquee in your site title would benefit a site as you could really go to town then with your site description in your title. i've seen a few address bars that actually scroll up with different titles.
9  Web Design & Developement / Useful Resources / Re: How many Pages has google indexed on your site??? on: December 24, 2007, 06:34:44 PM
Thank you for sharing that information, its always good to know, i also used the Syntax "Linkback: yoursite.com" to find a list of sites that have a link to my own site.

A very useful tool indeed and something people should use, I for one like to know how many links are to my site, and who uses them.
