1  Market Place / Sites & Domains for Sale / Re: Domain Price on: March 15, 2008, 09:25:44 PM
You might want to get a domain name appraisal that could help you get better pricing, if you want to sell it I recommend sedo.com. Short domain like that may be worth a few bucks.
2  General / General and Business Discussion / Turning your online business into an LLC on: March 15, 2008, 07:16:47 PM
I've been running my website for two years and just recently have launched two more websites that I keep promoting and are continuing to grow nicely. I am considering turning one of my websites into an LLC but for some reason I just haven't done it. I am at odds as to whether turning my online hobby into an LLC is the right choice, I haven't made any significant profit from it but would like to take the idea much further than it is now. I believe spending money on a site that isn't a company wouldn't give me any kind of support or tax break.

Has anyone had any experience with applying for an LLC? is there really any benefit? what obstacle have you come across?
3  General / General and Business Discussion / Re: SPAM on: March 15, 2008, 07:08:24 PM
I hate spam,
I get tons of spam  shocked, so much that I had to change my email address twice. I learned my lesson the second time around. What have done now is set up two different email address, one of these address I use solely for bills or other online services that I have used. The second one I use to email friends or sign up for other services that I don't use much. You have to keep your email private and try not to use it on several websites, plus being part of a forwarding message doesn't help since that's the best way to get your email address spammed.

I've noticed that at the end of the year and in the summer I received an influx of traffic. It could be related to my marketing but I don't do much of it at the end of the year. For some reason on rainy or cold days I also received a nice bit of traffic but nothing really noticeable.  smiley

What you should do is visit sites that you are interested in having or promoting this affiliate program with. Try approaching blogs that are closely related to your topic, there is more of a chance they will participate in your affiliate program. Try creating affiliates with forums and go beyond just affiliates and participate in boards. Listing your site in your signature will drive traffic to your site.
6  General / Web Hosting Forum / Re: Web hosting on: March 15, 2008, 06:56:44 PM
I use both paid and free hosting.

for my free hosting I use doteasy.com, all you have to pay for is the domain name which is a high $35 a year. Now this isn't to say that the free hosting the offer isn't great. I have run a few website's including my own site and have found their service but be quite well. Now they don't offer, php or any kind of scripting but they do offer their own scripts and forum software to use with your free account. You get a generous 100mb space and 1GB traffic, for me that enough to run a small website that has a PR2 ranking. The best thing about this free hosting is that they do not post any ads on your site what so ever.  grin

Paid hosting is better depending on the host that you are using. I am using downtownhost and they are a bit pricey but the level of service is way beyond other host's. The benefits of paid hosting is that you have tech support and you can run scripts of your forum. This kind of service isn't just for business but if you are running scripts or a forum its the ideal choice. You have to be very careful when choosing a paid host it could end up to be your worst nightmare or even worst than free hosting. I have had a bad experience with hosting zoom that after 3 months I couldn't even use my website because the server kept shutting down my scripts every time they ran. I contact support and only received excuses with no satisfaction to my problem.

If you are looking for some good pricing and great service try the guys at downtowhost.com. Their plans are a bit pricey but they offer phenomenal service. There tech support is is fast to reply to any support ticket. I always get a response from them within 10 minutes or less and their servers are top notch, I have never and have yet to have any problems.

did you find a host yet? what kind of website are you planning to host?

Just to a look at your site and I have a few comments,

As web designers we often get stuck with trying to sell a product and don't remember that the web is a source of information. Search engines look at sites based on the quality of information that is offered and if it's relevant to the sites name and other content listed. Your site doesn't have a lot of content, I am fully aware you are trying to sell a product but remember that having content will give you a higher PR rating in google. Since you site is related to football why not write some short articles or have a few reviews of football games or anything else related to football. You can spend your time optimizing meta tags, submitting to directories but with little or no content google will just ignore your site.

Here's a few tips
Try advertising your board in other forums related to football you can also gain back links by listing your site in your forum signature.

check your PR rating and backlinks regularly (not daily) try using dnscoop.com. You can really view a lot of important information.

Write articles on your site, online content. The more relevant content you have that pertains to your site the higher the PR ranking in google you will get.

Since your site is only a few months old it will take a few months for search engines to index your site. This should be the time you start creating content on your site that way search engines will have something to index.

Be patient, new sites don't get noticed right away. I know this from first hand experience, it took 4 months for my site to get indexed even after I submitted it to google and yahoo and that's because I didn't have enough content.

I hope this helps

Hello
Your site needs to have some kind of an intro, when I visited I could not tell what exactly your forum niche was. Is it animate  huh. Try having a featured box on the main page, since you are using Tiny Portal has that feature. You can list a short description of your site that will help visitors understand what you site is about and it will also help you get indexed by google.

Your forum colors match nicely with the overall background of your forum which help create consistency through your forum. I would recommend that you add or change your logo, you need to have something that is more attractive or memorable as a forum.

Your forum topics are also nicely condensed, often forum owners try to have as many topics as they can on their board. You have kept that to a minimum, nice job. If you need any more feedback let me know.

10  General / Website Reviews / Netridge Review on: March 15, 2008, 06:23:17 PM
Hello,
I am looking for a review on my site, I have owned it for over 2 years. The site isn't anything commercial it's more of my personal work that I like to share on the internet. The reason I need a review is because I want to know what I need to change or what I should add. I offer web templates and graphics for free and try to offer links to resources around the web and on other sites. It has been neglected for the last few months but I have decided that I will either close the site or make some large changes and add more content.

my site is

thanks

I used Vbulletin for about a year, I was a moderator of a large webmaster board and have become accustomed to the easy options that Vbulletin has. If you are going or have money to spend I would highly recommend that you put it to good use with a Vbulletin software.

There are other software options to use on a board, Try SMF. I have used smf for about 6 months and its really a simple piece of software to use. The community they have is very helpful and there are tons of mods offered in the community to use on your board.

So if its paid software you are looking at try Vbulletin. If you are tight on a budget or want to use your money for something else, try SMF you won't be sorry.
