1  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Implementing AdSesne on: February 26, 2008, 07:02:52 PM
I think blending in is the best way, for design purposes if nothing else. The piece of the ad that people click on is the text link which should be the same colour as the rest of your links.

I've heard it said that top right of the page is the most effective position for ads, so that's where I tend to put mine. I usually get between $4-$5 a week from AdSense. I don't have much traffic so that's not a bad amount.
2  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Get Paid for EVERY Visitor To Your Site!! 100% Free. on: February 24, 2008, 02:32:04 PM
I'm in two minds about pay per play ads. On the one hand I'm aware of the problems for people browsing at work. An automatic audio ad, no matter how short, would be a concern in a work environment! On the other hand it would be a handy way to monetize those kind of link bait internal pages that people visit without visiting the rest of your site. The network is closed for now so it doesn't really matter at the moment but I'll check them out if I get a chance.
3  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Pop-unders and Layer Ads on: December 31, 2007, 06:06:13 PM
I think pop-unders are a big mistake on any site. They give a very bad impression of any site that runs them.
4  Web Design & Developement / Web Design / HTML / Re: Webpage won't display in IE on: December 20, 2007, 02:12:39 PM
I'd agree with the comments about auto playing music. It's more than annoying if you're surfing from work. I've had a couple of incidents like this at work from time to time and it can cause problems.

I was going to have a look at the site but I see it's off-line at the moment. I'm no expert but I've plenty of practice messing around with codes until something works. I hope you are getting your problems sorted out.
5  Market Place / Sites & Domains for Sale / Re: Blogzac.com; UniqueDomain.Name; BonsaiWorkshop.com on: December 19, 2007, 05:05:44 PM
seanabc ... you might want to consider listing it on other forums... digitalpoint & sitepoint come to mind. I know a few people that make a living from buying/selling domains so I'll forward it to them in case they are interested.

Thanks very much for that! I'll try promoting the domains a bit more after Christmas. Just the free listing in Domain Name After Market isn't moving them anyway. I think being able to make a living from domaining would be so amazing but I guess it requires people who are more business-driven than I am.
6  Revenue & Traffic / Search Engine Optimization / Re: Are any of you proud of your Ranks in google? on: December 19, 2007, 05:00:12 PM
It's just through keeping a careful eye on my statistics. I spend far too much time logging into statcounter and tracking what keywords people are using. I know there are so many more productive things I should be doing but I haven't been able to get past doing that yet!
7  General / Website Reviews / Re: New Website ! on: December 17, 2007, 03:15:40 PM
I download lots and lots of movies and music. My initial reaction on seeing your site is that it is a page full of ads. That's exactly what it looks like to me. My reaction to the site is that if I found it while looking for a site to download a movie or an album from I would hit the back button immediately.

Downloading files requires you to place a lot of trust in the site that you are visiting. My initial gut reaction as a downloader is that I wouldn't trust your site.

I hope you don't take that the wrong way but it is my honest assessment. Maybe if you had more text on the front page and less links it wouldn't look so bad.
8  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Making Money with Text Links on: December 16, 2007, 11:50:19 AM
Thats not bad if you could sell 10 links  a month @$5 you wold get $50 a month.

It doesn't sound great for a PR4 site though. Compare that with how much people will pay for sponsored posts from a PR4 site.
9  Revenue & Traffic / Ad Revenue / Re: Google Adsense on: December 15, 2007, 09:41:46 AM
I second the above comment about traffic exchanges. I got a standard warning e-mail from Google one time after they detected hits from traffic exchange sites. Another point is that traffic exchange sites don't bring good visits. All they do is move your counter up a bit. I don't usually have much traffic on any of my sites yet either so I'm not making much from Adsense. But at least the nice thing about it is that I am consistently making at least something from it.

Someone further up mentioned pop-under ads. I personally get a bad impression of any site that has them. Whenever I find myself on a site with pop-under ads I get off it very quickly. I especially despise those pop-unders advertising casinos that helpfully offer to install software on my computer.

10  General / Web Hosting Blog / Re: Do site titles matter in Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? on: December 15, 2007, 09:30:57 AM
I'm still trying to find a descriptive title for my site. Basically it's a general interest blog where I post stuff that I like and that hopefully other people will too. I selected the domain name SomeDayNow.Com because I thought it was catchy but it doesn't really describe much about the site. I've noticed that pro-bloggers like Darren Rowse and John Chow have whole sentences in their site titles.

I was number one for 'free page peel script' for a couple of months but I've slipped down to number four now. It's been good to me though. Lot's of people click on the sample page peel ad on my page to test it and some of them sign up! (I probably shouldn't have said that!  grin)

My blog also comes in at number 2 when you google 'cocaine irish society'.  shocked and it's number 1 if you google 'sligo brothels'  shocked shocked

The moral here is, be careful what you blog about! smiley
12  Market Place / Sites & Domains for Sale / Blogzac.com; UniqueDomain.Name; BonsaiWorkshop.com on: December 15, 2007, 09:03:34 AM
I registered a number of domain names earlier this year with intentions of developing them. So far I have only managed to do a little with some of them. I'm willing to consider offers for:

Blogzac.Com
UniqueDomain.Name
BonsaiWorkshop.Com

I've had some of these posted on The Domain Name AfterMarket for a couple of months now. If anyone has any suggestions for better ways to sell them I'd be glad to hear them.
