I was just wondering how much PR (page rank) effects your search engine rank.
Last update, all of my domains dropped.  So I'm seeing if building backlinks is really worth it.  Thanks.

Very much considering that Pagerank is the HEART of google algorithm for ranking websites !

http://www.google.com/technology/

The only thing in SEO is to go with link building utilizing different anchors ( the ones you want to rank ). Get as much backlinks as possible from related, good ranked websites.

hint : webmasters forgot this in the recent years but emailing owners of good websites can still get you backlinks Wink

Google gives less or no importance to Page rank when ranking sites on it’s SERPS page.

Yeah, it's really not about the PR. It's more important to have the right keywords and such than to have a specific PR.

Not at all. Pagerank affects only how frequently google indexes your website and finds new content. When you search in Google the pages it returns are those that are most related to your keywords. I had a site with an N/A pagerank that outranked an established PR5 website page about the same thing because it was more related to the search term.

I am well aware that there are many webmasters out there who believe that a site should have a high PR so as to rank with in the Google SERPS.

Personally I don't pay much attention to page rank as I have outranked other sites with a much higher page rank. Don't forge that on page SEO is not reflected in Google PR.
