Hey,

Well, its a must for every website owner. Having a directory. Its true the market has now become saturated with these sites but they are still valuable. How do people see web directories? Do you think the SE count the links with some value or is it now, they are discounting the links thus affectin gout PR

You ranking in relation to your directory links is a direct result of the ranking of the links themselves. DMOZ has some outlandish SEO rankings, simply because they don't take just anyone into their directory fold. Do not take every Tom Dick, and Harry, adding him to your directory. Look for sites that include keyword triggers that you are looking for, and with a little page rank of their own. Don't become another directory for the newbie site to spam through an autosubmitter.

Directories can help with anchor text and to rank certain key phrases and also provide backlinks. Directory submission is more beneficial for new sites that have no backlinks yet and pages that are trying to rank well for long tail keywords.

The reason why directory links worth so little is mainly because directories themselves have little value. If you are looking for traffic from directories then stick to niche directories on popular websites.,  those ones may deliver traffic for you.
