It seems that Google however is placing less importance on directory listings now a days. There are so many general directories out there which offer little value to its users. If you do want to submit your site to directories then try to find niche directories which are directly related to your website.

Directory submission was a famous method for SEO. But its value for SEO is little less than earlier. But still good quality directory links can bring quality backlinks. Specially directories like Yahoo, Dmoz will bring strong backlinks for your site.
If you are going for directory submission try following factors;
-Directory should be well established
-Directory has a PR

Directories may be of little help to your site's PR and SERP, but if you do a lot of directory submissions, they could contribute to your site's traffic too.
