wahm.com has lots of different work from home sites on it, many of them web developer based.  I am going to try that while I am finding a web design job.

Very interesting to read. I have used that site but was not successful in securing the type of work at home work that I really wanted to do. I know that there are a lot of sites that offer work at home. But most of them want fees or you have to do stuff that would not really qualify as work to me. But you should check it out and find out for yourself.

I have been using WAHM.com for a while, it is an excellent source of information, especially when you hear of a work-at-home opportunity and wonder whether it is legit. In such cases I go to WAHM, and usually someone over there has tried it, knows about it, or knows someone who does. Scams are easy to weed out this way, and if it's not a scam, it also helps to see whether people like the job or not.

Thanks a lot, I'll look into it. http://www.getafreelancer.com is also a great website for freelance work in a lot of different topics.

Check out worplacelikehome too. Great community there, though real new leads can be few and far between. But, I think that's more of an industry problem than a site problem

There are lots of great work at home and freelance opportunities out there but it is just a shame that many of them are actually scams.

I would never pay upfront for any work at home scheme. I may be a little cynical, but you just have to be so careful.

Why don't you consider starting out your own company.  Its easy enough to do and there is plenty of work out there, If you are inexpensive and prepared to work hard initially to build up a bit of a name for yourself in your local area there should be plenty of work from business start ups alone.  Many start-ups will get a limited grant off the government and other organisations for a basic website and stationery which is a good place to start.

actually there are some great freelancing sites like getafreelancer, elance and guru.com etc where you can find plenty of work but always refrain from sites which require to paid before providing you with some job.

There are plenty of work at home oportunities outhere. Just watch out for the scams. The worst thing ever is to give your best on a project but not get paid on it. I would also recommend rentacoder.com. It is similar to getafreelancer.com and a pretty good site.
