Overall this is a great forum to use. The speed and reliability are on par with some of the bigger known forums. The user interface and organization of the forums is amazing, so far my favorite. One of the main features is the click through installs of mods and addons for the forums. It does the downloading and installing for you (major plus). Requires MySQL so it can't be used on most free hosts. The admin section however seems very sloppy and unorganized compared to some others.

I agree that simplemachines.org is a great forum to use.  I am a member of a single overhead cam (SOHC) motorcycle forum and as a member I find the forum easy to use.  I wouldn't know about designing a the forum using simplemachines because I have never designed a site with it.  If you want an example of an up and running forum looks like, you can visit http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php
