hey y'all. my site is mainly a portfolio for all of my work, whether it be drawings, computer imagery or 3d models. its also got other things like a section about me and links to other decent sites. ive had the site for about a year and 5 months and in that time its gone through 4 redesigns, the current one is the best of the lot though. when i started the site i was still learning about html and css and all that, and the site has been pretty much the only thing thats helped me learn it. ive been experimenting with the layout, the coding and everything and thats how ive taught myself how to use html and css and whatever else ive done. which is exactly the same as how ive learnt programs like photoshop and how to 3d model, ive taught myself cos my tutors at college never bothered to teach me (and the reast of my class) anything at all. just think, if i can do it, so can everyone else out there. just put your mind to it and you can learn how to do anything, but remember to be patient.

hopefully you'll all enjoy the site and my work. please let me know what you think and maybe youd even like to be the first poster in my guestbook (link on the site) grin

so heres the site: http://djjimmy.t35.com/

thanks

okay, let's start.
Takes too long to load. The average dumwitted internet user will be bored out and quit your site if it doesn't load fast enough! The max uploading should be 20 seconds. This site is taking 2 minutes and still uploading. Now i will wait for the site to load so i can carry on.......
Ok seriously make it load less! i have been waiting 4 minutes with 10Mbps broadband! Try cutting your page down. For example, who needs all those update news posts? Have only the latest three news and then put the rest in a old news page. Like oldnews.html . That welcome to my site thing should be nearer to the top because i am lost at sea (not literally) at how to work the site. Also your links should have a smaller maybe diffrent colour size font underneath explaing each link. Your links are really cool. I like the font style. I see you are using bravenet counter. It is ok. Okay i am really annoyed. The site loaded and i grew a beard and yet i can not see that huge picture that is in the middle of the page! Your site design is nice but not that good. I would prefer to have some options. It would be good if you put a design choice for the user to pick. It makes surfing easier. I have gone back to the welcome page, it loaded 5 secs with the picture in the middle working this time. I think that was because your site is now in my temperoary (spelling?) internet files.  Apart from that your site is great! Well done! I like your drawings by the way. 8.5/10. Go go go  grin

You have Some CSS errors in you page, and to check them out go here:
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdjjimmy.t35.com%2F&usermedium=all

You also Have HTML errors in the page, and to fix these go here:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdjjimmy.t35.com%2F

Fixing these errors, may help with how I see the picture of Link. With a split (Viewed in FireFox)

I think you should remove the statcounter at the bottom, and go here: http://statcounter.com/ they offer an awsome statcounter, with no advertisments.  You could also go here http://hotscripts.com and get one for free.

It looks like there is supposed to be a side border around the content, and image of link, I don't see it when I view it. If there isn't supposed to be one, I would think about adding one.  Otherwise it is a coding error.

It otherwise looks very nice and clean.

(I didn't have a slow load time, but I am on a 2MB/Sec cable modem)

i have no idea why the sites takin so long to load, it doesnt take that long for me (that is when ive cleared out all my temp files and history etc) and ive just got a shitty 56kbps dial-up modem. i think part of the reason why it took so long is the counter. the counter loads slow and its in the main table. tables have to load all of their content before they show up so the rest of the content in that table has to wait until the counter has loaded and cos its slow it takes a while. i have to admit i dont really like the bravenet counter anyway but its the best free one ive found that doesnt need cgi-bin stuff.

i have taken into account what you said about the news posts. i worked it before that id archive all the news at the end of the month, but recently ive been doin more updates and so theres been more news piling up on the homepage. im gonna do it after every few updates now though.

i think youve got a point about the welcome to the site thing but i wanted the image of the latest update at the top. im gonna take a look at that and see what i can come up with.

i dont get why the links need explanations though, theyre kinda self-explanatory arent they? home, about me, my portfolio, etc, whats so hard to understand? huh

about the site design. ok you may not think its that good but i prefer simple designs. i like designs with solid colours, clean lines etc and seeing as my content (my drawings, computer work, etc) are real pictures that have plenty of colour and whatever else they have, i think it makes a nice contrast to have a simple interface. like i said though, i like simple designs and the site is all about me and my work so i think its best that i show off what i like. you get what i mean? i cant do another design option though, that would require php knowledge right? i dont know the first thing about that.

im glad you like my drawings anyway, and 8.5/10 isnt a bad score smiley

if you mean a border around the whole dark grey main area of the page i didnt put one in, but i might think about that now youve said that.

ok, ive made a few changes to the site.

the first, and most noticable, is that ive changed the big 'latest update' image/link to 3 smaller ones. yesterday i made them to go horizontally across the top but it didnt look right, so ive redone them today to go vertically down the right instead. it means that the 'welcome to the site' thing starts at the top of the page and is available without having to scroll down loads. it also means that visitors can see more than just one recent piece of work which i think makes it easier to view my work from the start. i think it looks alot better Smiley

the second change is the counter. ive swapped the crappy bravenet counter for a much better one from statcounter. im loving it. i chose a text counter and cos of that i can totally edit the font and colour and everything to look exactly like my site. its great. ive set it to count pageloads instead of uniques this time so it looks better, lol. also if your wondering why the count is so high its cos i set the counter to start at the amount of pageloads my bravenet counter got to, i didnt want to start all over again. i had my bravenet counter on uniques anyway, so thats why the amount pf hits has really rocketed.

and now theres a few not very noticable changes. ive done the recent updates/news so it shows the last 3 updates like you suggested, no more. as soon as i get to 4 updates the oldest one goes into the archives. another slight change is that ive removed the 2k_remix thing from everything except the site logo because i dont want to have to go through the sites many pages every year changing it. the logo has changed a bit anyway cos ive crossed out the 5 and put 6 instead so its updated to teh new year. crossing it out was supposed to be just temporary though but i think it looks kinda good so i think im gonna keep it like that.

i think thats everything that ive changed though so please check it out and let me know what you think Smiley

P.S. btw, i tried putting a border around the whole of the main section, where the content is, like you suggested bile, but it didnt look right so i took it off and put it back to what it was. thanks for the suggestion though.

You still have HTML, and CSS errors, I would strongly reccomend looking at them, and fixing those error.  Those errors can make a difference between how people see your site depending on what type of browser they are using.  It could look all jacked up because of those errors.

When I viewed you page using FF, I saw one thing, when using IE, I saw another thing, it wasn't a big deal, but it was just how the head images were veiwed.  In FF there was two rows of images, and in IE there was one row of images.  I am pretty sure, that you are going for the IE view of it, but I wouild reccomend fixing those errors, that could be why I view it weird.

I noticed that when I swich different screen resolutions, nothing changes, which is a really good thing, Good Job on that.

I hear that you have something on every page, (by the way you talk in the last post).  There are two ways (that I know how to do) to fix that if you are interested, so you only have to change one thing to change everyting.  One way is to use PHP (you will need to rename all of you files for this to work), another way would be to use javascript.

Looks good, Just Fix Your Errors
Your CSS Errors
Your HTML Errors

sorry about the rather late reply. ive been busy over the past couple of months and even thought i got an email letting me know someone had replied i forgot to visit and reply back, so sorry.

but anyway ... i had a look at the css and html errors you posted (thanks btw) and the css errors are all to do with the scrollbar. theres no problem with the scrollbar except that not all browsers can view it (e.g. netscape) so thats no problem. ive looked at the css warnings aswell and they seem to be small things that dont affect the site, like the fact that i havent put background colours for a few things.

as for the html errors its just that i haven't specified alt text for some of my images and thats no big deal, ive put them for the menu images, the images that link to other pages but the rest don't need alt text so ive left it. their the only html errors.

so the css and html errors are nothing, they dont need fixing, but thanks for finding them out anyway, i appreciate it Smiley

P.S. the site has just been updated with some more stuff so if you wanna check it out, feel free
