Site up for review:  http://www.womenplayfootball.com

Alright, here's google analytics' breakdown of the site:
358 Visits
1,427 Pageviews
3.99 Pages/Visit
38.83% Bounce Rate
00:03:51 Avg. Time on Site
80.73% % New Visits

Here's the site owner's breakdown of the site:
2 sales

I am requesting that anyone/everyone give me reasons, ideas, excuses as to (speculative or otherwise):
1.  why this site is not receiving any more traffic than what it is
2.  why this site has not made any more sales than what it has

I am here requesting a review of the site because I am trying to figure out if there is anything other than the simple laws of supply and demand that are affecting this site's performance.

Keep in mind that I am a freelance web designer, and I should know the answer to the question presented...   however, I am at a loss on this particular website.

I have taken into account that:
1.  The product has a limited target (only so many women play tackle football)
2.  The site is fairly new (established in January 2008)
3.  The site does not have a PR (as far as I know there has been no PR since Jan 08)
4.  My submissions to multiple directories probably have not been processed yet, therefore I have few backlinks

Steps I have taken for SEO:
1.  Posted multiple blogs
2.  Commented on relative blogs and linked www.womenplayfootball.com
3.  Submitted to multiple directories (all free, none paid)
4.  Optimized all meta tags

I have used social networks such as myspace to drive traffic to the site.  I have added friends who are on women's football teams, in leagues, friends of people on teams, and in the leagues, which is where MANY of the hits are coming from....   Many of the friends have backlinks to womenplayfootball on their myspace page.

So, the review that I am asking for is a basic overall review on the design layout, functionality, user input, SEO suggestions....

While I doubt I make major changes to the overall layout of the site, any and all suggestions for tweaking this site will be seriously considered.

Also, is there some secret to getting a site listed in dmoz?  I submitted this site and have had NO luck getting it listed!

I know I have a lot of questions, and am asking you to look at a lot.... but the owner has a lot of questions for me that I have not really been able to answer.....  Sad

Fire away.

Just to a look at your site and I have a few comments,

As web designers we often get stuck with trying to sell a product and don't remember that the web is a source of information. Search engines look at sites based on the quality of information that is offered and if it's relevant to the sites name and other content listed. Your site doesn't have a lot of content, I am fully aware you are trying to sell a product but remember that having content will give you a higher PR rating in google. Since you site is related to football why not write some short articles or have a few reviews of football games or anything else related to football. You can spend your time optimizing meta tags, submitting to directories but with little or no content google will just ignore your site.

Here's a few tips
Try advertising your board in other forums related to football you can also gain back links by listing your site in your forum signature.

check your PR rating and backlinks regularly (not daily) try using dnscoop.com. You can really view a lot of important information.

Write articles on your site, online content. The more relevant content you have that pertains to your site the higher the PR ranking in google you will get.

Since your site is only a few months old it will take a few months for search engines to index your site. This should be the time you start creating content on your site that way search engines will have something to index.

Be patient, new sites don't get noticed right away. I know this from first hand experience, it took 4 months for my site to get indexed even after I submitted it to google and yahoo and that's because I didn't have enough content.

I hope this helps

Okay... we just filled our 16th order tonight.  Almost all the traffic is coming from myspace.  I created http://www.womenplayfootball.com/news.html which gives the news for women's football teams and leagues.  This should serve as some content.  We're getting more hits, and our bounce rate is about 30%.  So stats are picking up for this 2 month old site.  It's looking up.

Do you feel that the content has to be on the index or no?

I'd like to see a more interesting logo for your site, but it looks good! Maybe have some pink on the helmet or something.  tongue
